Carissa Stith envisioned herself as a writer from a young age. Like most childhood dreams, writing slowly became a second thought as family and friends urged her to focus on a more conventional career path. Yet, after moving from South Florida to transfer to the University of Texas at Austin, she made the decision to change her major to rhetoric and writing. The decision led her to a trusted mentor and eventually her first magazine assignment. Today, Carissa is the associate editor and a writer for Horns Illustrated. She also kept her promise to her loved ones and works in product management for a digital-marketing company. This is her first article for ATX Man.
